Heritage Villa is a thoughtful interior transformation of a much-loved family residence in Auckland, one of the city’s few remaining concrete double bayfront villas. The design refreshes the home to support evolving family life while honouring its architectural heritage, creating interiors that feel grounded, welcoming, and enduring. With renewed clarity and cohesion across key spaces, including the kitchen, living areas, bathrooms, and a discreet climate-controlled wine room, the project balances respect for the villa’s character with contemporary comfort and function.

The living spaces were carefully redefined to move away from a purely open-plan arrangement, introducing definition and intimacy without sacrificing connection. Steel-framed windows and doors articulate zones while maintaining visual continuity between rooms. Their clean architectural lines reference the home’s original period character and anchor the contemporary updates within its historic context.

At the heart of the home, the kitchen was reimagined as a highly considered centre of daily life, balancing function with quiet references to the villa’s industrial heritage. A cantilevered steel-framed stone island introduces strength and precision, while profiled cabinetry and handmade Japanese tiles add texture and craft. Clever storage solutions, such as a concealed pantry beneath the stair, ensure the space remains composed, uncluttered, and supportive of everyday routines.

Throughout Heritage Villa, spaces were reshaped to support both everyday living and generous entertaining, with private areas refined to feel calm and composed.
