The interior design prioritises spatial flow and intuitive transitions between spaces, strengthening the connection between indoor living areas and the surrounding landscape. Living areas were carefully planned to support both retreat and gathering, with circulation, sightlines, and scale working in balance. Key living spaces were subtly reworked to enhance flow, proportion, and everyday functionality, while private guest suites were reshaped to feel generous, composed, and quietly luxurious.
Material expression plays a central role throughout, guided by restraint and longevity. A palette of natural stone, timber, and layered textiles introduces warmth and tactility, while subtle tonal variation responds to the shifting coastal light. Bespoke cabinetry, layered finishes, and a carefully considered furniture and décor programme bring depth without excess, with each element selected for how it sits in dialogue with the architecture and the client’s art collection.

Throughout the project, Sonya Cotter led close collaboration with international teams and trusted New Zealand suppliers, bringing clarity and cohesion to a complex architectural interior. Considerations around scale, materiality, and bespoke elements were distilled into resolved outcomes, resulting in an interior that feels effortless to inhabit and balanced between sophistication and comfort.
